while I still have wings to fly
And all I asked was time to spend
with my friends in Uruguay
Waves of memories, sands of time,
half a century slipped away
When present and past came together at last
on one unforgettable day
My old school photographs came to life,
and the children stepped out of the frames
As we tried to connect unfamiliar faces
with all those familiar names
I just went back to my roots again
where we talked and laughed and cried
And reawakened the childhood days
that I carry forever inside
(with thanks to John Masefield’s “Sea Fever”)
