Empires

Empires come and empires go,
each new one makes the claim,
that theirs is different to the rest
and yet, they’re all the same.

Leaders trumpet noble goals,
their youngsters go to war,
the vanquished take a solemn oath
to even up the score.

Those who say that God’s with them
will find that they are wrong.
Empires come and empires go
but never last for long.
