Thanksgiving 2006

Some say thank you, some say gracias 
and I know with certitude
there’s a word in every language
for expressing gratitude

When I say it I should mean it 
or it’s just another sham:
shallow thanks, like empty promises,
are never worth a damn

So, thanks for friends and family
and the simple things I know
I’m grateful for a life full lived 
until it’s time to go
