The Earth is Round

Once upon a time the Earth was flat, 
everyone everywhere agreed with that,
and those who sailed too close to the rim 
were much more likely to sink than swim. 

Then came astronomers with an open mind 
and eyes wide open in the land of the blind. 
They peered, they pondered, and finally found 
that the Earth isn’t flat, it is beautifully round. 

Conventional wisdom took time to see 
what now is obvious to you and me. 
Remembering that helps me understand
why some keep their heads firmly in the sand.
