Cause and Effect

Today I waved
my magic wand
and tossed a pebble
into the pond

it made a splash
then ripples expanded
out from the spot
where the pebble landed

this is precisely
what one would expect
in a universe governed
by cause and effect

but I hadn't foreseen
that my toss would entail
loosing a deluge
on a minor scale

now there is flooding
from bank to bank
and I have only
myself to thank

or should I say
myself to blame
so here I stand
awash in shame

and hereby make
a solemn pact
to always think
before I act
