Translating

I spent my formative years in Uruguay, listening to a mixture of Spanish and English for as far back as I can remember. Among the kids I grew up with we spoke a mixture of both languages, called Spanglish, which in retrospect gave me a better grasp of both of them. Taking words apart teaches a great deal about how to put them together again.

Then I lived in Spain for about four years, where I gained a deeper understanding of the origins and evolution of Spanish, and developed an appreciation for the nuances of regional speech.

I have now lived in Texas for nearly twenty-five years and feel at home with the Spanish spoken in the United States.

Translating involves written words and, as a visit to the rest of this website will confirm, I am a writer. Once I have understood the meaning of the text, I put on my writer’s hat and go to work.

I translate documents of many different types - newsletters, video scripts, training handbooks, instruction manuals, advertising material, art catalogues, slide presentations, and so on. I also do literary translation.
