Valentine’s Day

How many lovers
would you say
write a poem
on Valentine’s Day?

To declare their love
their predilection
for the object of
their deep affection

A simple poem
a word or two
or three, if saying
I love you

Each lover is drawn
to a different flame
but the love we feel
is all the same

I take exception
to unkind taboos
I believe in loving
whomever we choose
