It All Starts With Letters

I went to the library
to take a look
I was trying to find
a particular book

I looked for the book
all by myself
and finally found it
up on a shelf

I borrowed the book
I’m happy to say
and started to read it
right away

Enjoying a book
is so much fun
so I started reading
at chapter one

The book was funny
it made me laugh
right from the very
first paragraph

I like to go carefully
line by line
reading each sentence
one at a time

Within each sentence
I read each word
and often find some
I’ve never heard

Inside the words
all I can find
are a few little syllables
intertwined

If I take apart a syllable
and maybe I’d better
all I have left
is a handful of letters

I use these letters
every day of the week
whenever I read
and write and speak.

Letters are building blocks
I think they’re great
without them how
would I communicate?
