A Question of Age

In the thoughtful hours
before the dawn
I ponder a question or two:
such as, how can I be as old as I am
when I’m feeling as young as I do?

My body is aging,
the mirrors don’t lie,
as I’m constantly startled to see;
and I wonder if one day I’ll be ninety-nine
but still feel a mere twenty-three?
